Course Introduction
This video course is for students who have passed CET-4 and CET-6 and have chosen intermediate English interpretation and advanced English interpretation as optional courses, who are the fourth year English Majors, English major and non-English major postgraduates who are interested in interpretation. The purpose of this course is to provide students with systematic and solid English interpretation training through the new teaching and practice modes to help them pass the current mainstream interpretation tests and improve their interpretation ability.
Curriculum Outline
This video course will demonstrate in categories the training of listening, memory and notes for improving the level of interpretation. The contents will be presented in the way which is clear and easy for students to understand and imitate, which is conducive to students' self-training after class. Finally, this video course will teach the characteristics, principles and relevant training methods of interpretation in different situations, such as business negotiation, press conference, reception, etc., it also includes students’ most concerned contents: how to prepare, how to take part in in intermediate and advanced interpretation, how to take part in CATTI and NAETI examination.
Teaching objectives
Helping students to pass the intermediate and advanced interpretation certificate examinations; passing the TEM-4 and TEM-8 examinations, improving the interpretation ability of Non-English Majors and English majors. One is to provide the students who want to obtain the certificates of interpretation (such as Shanghai Intermediate and Advanced Certificate of Interpretation, CATTI and NAETI) with the training methods and guidance for preparation; Second, students who are interested in interpretation but do not need to be verified can also have a deeper understanding of the conversion between English and Chinese through training, so as to lay a solid foundation for future work in a bilingual environment; Third, through the regular use of the latest audio-visual reports of British and American media, students can? understand international current affairs. Meanwhile, interpretation materials involve business negotiation, science and technology, law, press conference, advertisement, formal speech, tour and visit, interview, academic speech, informative speech and other fields, which can broaden students' knowledge.
This video course will give a general introduction to interpretation, let students know the definition, history, category, standard and characteristics of interpretation, especially the conditions for becoming a qualified interpreter and the methods and process of interpretation training, provide systematic interpretation skill training, enable students to master interpretation procedures and basic skills, learn the basic skills and interpreting strategies about how to interpret and memorize, how to take notes, how to make an oral summary, how to deliver a public speech, etc., cultivate students' information awareness of current affairs, students’ mastery of basic methods of accumulating knowledge; cultivate students' ability of discourse analysis, logical thinking, language organization, bilingual expression, cross-cultural communication and translation between English and Chinese.
Basic Teaching Requirements
1.Mastering the concept, history, nature, characteristics, standards, processes, types and necessary qualities of interpreters.
2.Understanding the similarities and differences between interpretation and translation, and flexibly applying translation skills in interpretation.
3.Understanding the importance of the training of short-term memory and consciously training their short-term memory ability.
4.Mastering the basic principles and skills of note-taking in interpretation, being able to take notes quickly with common symbols , or to take notes quickly in Chinese or English.
5.Mastering the basic principles and skills of interpretation, such as the principles and
skills of interpretation of tourism text, foreign publicity materials, etc.

Those already reached the CET-4 level of grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, translation and so on.
